External Wall Insulation in Hemel Hempstead
A solid-walled semi with tired, patched-up pebbledash, cold walls and rising heating bills. The owners wanted the house warmer, quieter and looking new again — done once, done properly. 120 m² of walls, a full scope of works, and a rare thing in this industry: the real price, published below.

What Was Included in £20,560
This was a complete, start-to-finish EWI project: 100 mm mineral wool insulation system across 120 m² of wall (breathable and non-combustible, Euroclass A1), 80 mm XPS to the plinth below the damp-proof course, EWI Pro Nanodrex top-coat render — the flagship of the EWI Pro range: self-cleaning, hydrophobic and highly crack-resistant. If renders were cars, this one is the Lamborghini.
The price also covered scaffolding for the full duration, enabling and commissioning works (moving and reinstating pipes, vents, the satellite dish and external fittings), gas works carried out by qualified engineers, and full waste removal. That works out at roughly £171 per m² all-in, with 0% VAT — insulation is zero-rated until 31 March 2027.

Why Mineral Wool?
On solid-wall houses we usually recommend mineral wool over EPS: it lets the wall breathe, so moisture escapes instead of getting trapped, and it is completely non-combustible. With 100 mm the walls now meet modern thermal standards — owners of similar semis typically see 30–40% lower heating bills after EWI.
