Brick Slip Cladding — Real Brick Character, Modern Insulation Performance
Love the look of traditional brickwork but want the warmth of external wall insulation? Brick slip cladding gives you both. Thin slices of real clay brick (or lightweight mineral slips) are bonded over an insulated substrate, so your home keeps its classic brick character while gaining the energy performance of a fully insulated façade.
At EWI Specialist we install proven brick slip systems from Licata, Eurobrick and EWI Pro (acrylic slips) — complete, tested build-ups where insulation, adhesives, slips and pointing mortar are engineered to work together.

Why Choose Brick Slip Cladding?
- Authentic brick appearance — real clay slips in a wide range of colours, from traditional reds to modern anthracite tones, with hand-pointed mortar joints.
- Full insulation benefit — installed as the finish layer of an external wall insulation (EWI) system, cutting heat loss through solid walls.
- Fire safety — Licata clay brick slips are tested to A2-s1, d0 fire classification (BS EN 13501-1), and systems are available with A1 non-combustible mineral wool insulation.
- Lightweight vs. real brick — a fraction of the weight of a full brick skin, so no new foundations are needed.
- Durable & low maintenance — brick slips weather like real brickwork, with no repainting.
- Planning-friendly — ideal where planners or conservation context require a brick finish rather than render.
The Systems We Install
Licata Brick Slip Systems
Complete EWI build-ups from Licata Building Systems: insulation boards (including A1 non-combustible mineral wool), reinforced basecoat, and clay or mineral brick slips bonded with flexible adhesive and pointed by hand. Tested as a full system for long-term performance.
Eurobrick X-Clad / V-Clad
Eurobrick introduced brick slip cladding to the UK in the early 1990s. Their insulated X-Clad and V-Clad systems combine an insulation backer panel with a mechanical key for the slips — a fast, lightweight build-up suitable for retrofit, new build and modular projects.
EWI Pro Acrylic Brick Slips
As certified EWI Pro installers, we also fit their flexible acrylic brick slips — an ultra-lightweight, thin brick-effect finish bonded directly over the insulation system. Acrylic slips are highly resistant to impact, abrasion and UV, can be shaped around corners for a seamless look, and come in a wide range of colours and textures. A cost-effective alternative to clay slips that keeps the brick character with even less weight.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can brick slips be installed over external wall insulation?
Yes — that’s exactly what these systems are designed for. The slips form the weatherproof, decorative finish of the insulated build-up.
Are brick slips fire-safe?
The Licata clay slips we install are classified A2-s1, d0 (BS EN 13501-1) and can be combined with A1 non-combustible mineral wool insulation.
How long does brick slip cladding last?
Clay brick slips weather like traditional brickwork. Our installations are backed by a guarantee of up to 25 years.
How much does brick slip cladding cost?
Labour starts from £70/m² for acrylic brick slips and from £95/m² for 20 mm original clay brick slips. Materials are priced separately and typically range from £30 to £70/m² depending on the slip range you choose — so an installed finish usually starts from around £100/m² (acrylic) or £125/m² (clay). Every project is different, so we confirm everything in a free, fixed-price quote after a survey.
Clay or acrylic brick slips — which should I choose?
Clay slips are real brick: authentic texture, A2-s1, d0 fire classification and traditional weathering. Acrylic slips (EWI Pro) are lighter, flexible around corners and typically more budget-friendly. We’ll show you samples of both at the survey and recommend the right option for your property.
Can you match my existing brickwork?
In most cases yes — slips come in a wide range of colours, textures and formats, and we’ll bring samples to the survey.
